Im Rahmen des von der Josef und Hilde Wilberz-Stiftung geförderten internationalen Atelierstipendiums der Stadt Mönchengladbach hat die Künstlerin und Filmemacherin Cana Bilir-Meier, eine dreiteilige Online-Veranstaltungsreihe mit dem Titel Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest kuratiert und in Kooperation mit dem Städtischen Kulturbüro, dem Kunstverein Jesteburg sowie dem KÖNTGES der Initiative Altstadt Mönchengladbach organisiert. Ergänzend zur Veranstaltungsreihe erscheint im Frühjahr 2021 ein künstlerischer Katalog, in dem sich die Künstlerin mit den Themen Archive, Erinnerung, Solidarität, Revolution(en), Migration und Arbeit in Form von Lyrik, Texten und Bildern auseinandersetzt welches den künstlerischen Abschluss ihres Stipendiums in Mönchengladbach markiert.
Die dritte und letzte Online-Veranstaltung Oriental Futurism am 25.2., schließt die Reihe mit der Music & Art Duo Seba Kayan und Betül Seyma Küpeli und einer widerständigen und inspirierenden Performance aus einer Collage von Musik, Sound und Texten.

Shayma & Seba, das erste kurdische female Kunst und Musik Duo in Wien, verwendet spoken word, sound poetry und elektroakustische Musik als Ausdruck der Rage, des Widerstandes und der kulturellen Heilung. Als Women of Color, die intersektionale Diskriminierung in einer rassistischen Gesellschaft erleben, bündeln sie ihre Wut in einer Fusion von „Dengbej“ (einer historischen kurdischen Form von Musik und Geschichten erzählen), Anatolischen Klängen, Techno, House, Acid und Trap.
Betül Seyma Küpeli (Shayma) ist Konzeptkünstlerin, Singer-Songwriter, Kunst- und Kulturvermittlerin. Sie hat Architektur und Bildende Kunst studiert. In ihren Arbeiten beschäftigt sie sich mit folgenden Themen: postmigrantisch situiertes und intersektionales Wissen, gesellschaftspolitische und soziokulturelle Verhältnisse und Urbanistik. Mit intermedialen Ausdrucksformen wie Videokunst, Sound Art sowie visueller und performativer Kunst schafft sie Verbindungen und Brüche zugleich. Zurzeit arbeitet Sie an einem Coming-of-Age Science-Fiction Animationsfilm.
Seba Kayan ist Djane, Künstlerin und Soundartist. Sie entwickelte 2017 das Projekt Kreativenplattform, welches Kunst- und Designschaffenden einen Raum eröffnet, ihre künstlerischen Arbeiten in einen neuen Kontext zu setzen, in welchem der Raum die Werke mitbestimmt und beeinflusst. Sie arbeitet transdisziplinär mit verschiedenen Genres und schafft Verbindungen zwischen Musik und Kunst.

As part of the international studio scholarship of the city of Mönchengladbach, funded by the Josef and Hilde-Wilberz Foundation, the artist and filmmaker Cana Bilir-Meier, has curated an online event series with three parts entitled “Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest”. The event series is organized in cooperation with the Kulturbüro Mönchengladbach Municipal Cultural Office, the Kunstverein Jesteburg and the KÖNTGES of the Initiative Altstadt Mönchengladbach. In addition to the series of events, an artistic catalog will be published in spring 2021, in which the artist addresses themes like archives, memory, solidarity, revolution(s), migration and work in the form of poetry, texts and images, marking the artistic conclusion of her fellowship in Mönchengladbach.
The third and final online event on Feb. 25, closes the series with the art collective „Oriental Futurism“ by artists Seba Kayan and Betül Seyma Küpeli and a resistant and inspiring performance of a collage of music, sound and texts.

Shayma & Seba, the first Kurdish female art and music duo in Vienna, uses spoken word, sound poetry and electroacoustic music as an expression of rage, resistance and cultural healing. As women of color who experience intersectional discrimination in a racist society, they bundle their anger in a fusion of „Dengbej“ (a historically Kurdish form of music and storytelling), Anatolian sounds and techno, house, acid and trap.
Betül Seyma Küpeli (Shayma) is a concept artist, singer-songwriter and cultural mediator. She studied architecture and fine arts. In her work, she deals with post-migrant and intersectional knowledge, socio-political and socio-cultural conditions and urban planning. She uses intermedia forms of expression such as video art, sound art as well as visual and performative art, she creates connections and breaks them at the same time. She is currently working on a coming-of-age science fiction animation film.
Seba Kayan is a Djane, artist and sound artist. In 2017 she developed the projekt Kreativplattform, which opens up a space for artists and designers to place their artistic work in new contexts, in which the space co-determines and influences the works. She works transdisciplinary with different genres and creates connections between music and art.
